10 Living Room Decor Ideas To Brighten Your Home

This is a guest post by Hannah Hutchinson.

Want to make your home look brighter and more beautiful? It may be time to give your home interior décor a bit of a face-lift, adding a new color, texture, or pattern to spice things up!

There's nowhere better to start than your living room, the place where you sit, relax, and spend time with your family. Here are a few of my favorite living room décor ideas to try:

1. Install a mirror

Mirrors not only provide a new décor element to your living room, but they make the room look larger and more spacious. I think they're a great way to add a new dimension to my living space!

Plus, depending on where you hang the mirror, it can be used as a decorative touch over the fireplace, beside the living room entrance, or even opposite the window.

2. Add wooden pieces

A few wooden picture frames, mantle pieces, or decorative items add warmth and spice to my living room décor. I love the timeless, ageless look of wood, and it's the perfect addition to a warm, cozy living room.

3. Use copper

Copper has a "warming" appearance that will give your living room a brand new look. I like to use it for small details, and it does wonders for the ambience of my social spaces.

4. Decorate with seashells

Seashells can be used to DIY all sorts of beautiful home decoration items, such as candles and potpourri holders. The list of things you can make from shells of all shapes and sizes is endless, so hit the beach and get collecting!

Adding shells to my living room décor gives it a beachy vibe that makes me feel comfortable and relaxed at home. Plus, who doesn't love the beach?

5. Add plants

Nothing adds a splash of color and life to a living space like plants! I love anything of any size and shape - large ferns, tiny banzai plants, or mid-sized cactuses. In the end, adding a bit of natural life to your living room will make it feel more alive!

Worried that your plants will die because you don't spend much time at home? Try succulents, cactuses, and other hardy plants.

6.Use patterned and colored throw pillows

If you have a classic white/light living room theme, it's time to add a new dimension with colored and patterned throw pillows. Choose one color and mix and match the patterns. It will make the room pop!

Or, try working with a few different colors (compatible colors, of course), and use just one pattern.

7. Hang quotes

I love to print out inspirational quotes on thick card stock, and hang them in handmade frames. If that's too much work, find quotes already printed and framed, and use them to inspire you in your living room.

8. Take down the curtains

This may sound crazy, but I love how it looks! Removing curtains can do wonders to brighten up the living room! Without curtains, your living room will look much more spacious. By removing the ruffled lace or thick cloth curtains, you create a minimalist look that is beautifully modern.

Definitely worth a try - I know it gives me a lot more natural light!

9. Hang a piece of artwork

If your living room walls are bare, perhaps it's time to try something new and fresh. Art comes in all styles - from timeless and classic to modern, with everything in between.

You'll have no problem finding a piece that fits your living room décor and your personal tastes, adding a splash of color and elegance to the space.

10. Change the wallpaper

Looking for an awesome DIY home improvement project for the weekend? Why not change out your wallpaper for something fresh and new? I've found you can bring a splash of color to any room with fresh wallpaper.

These ideas can help you to give your living room a whole new look, and will make your living space that much more "you".
