Hating the home you live in is more common than you might think. Many people look around their house and decide there’s nothing about it they like; it’s too small, it’s not functional enough, there’s a lot of mold growing, it’s been poorly decorated and would just take too much effort to change, etc. There really can be a lot of problems with our living spaces!
And when you come to the conclusion that these issues are too much for you, you can be left with a lot of frustrations and no idea how to fix any of them. But that’s why we’re here. If you hate the home you live in, and you’re more than keen to change it, here’s what you can do.
Dial Back Any Recent Updates
If you’ve just put a lot of time and money into redecorating, renovating, or converting, we’ve got some bad news for you: this could be the source of your woes. If the hatred for your home has come on quite suddenly, this is most likely to be the case.
Maybe the project has revealed to you the exact state your home is in, and it’s worse than you thought? Or maybe the result of the project is horrible and not what you wanted at all? Either way, it’s a good idea to dial back on both your future update plans and try to strip back on the update you’ve recently completed.
Have a Proper Clearout
A proper clearout is sometimes all you need to fall in love with your space again! Give yourself a couple of weekends to get this done. Afterwards, you can evaluate again how you feel about your home and see if anything’s changed – and try not to dwell on this in the meantime.
Clear out as much as you can, from big, mainstay furniture pieces to the most random assortments of weird little offcuts, screws, and bits of plastic that clutter up your drawers. Clearing all of this stuff out means you can see the space for its true potential again, and essentially, just start from scratch.
Start Saving
If changing the interior of your home, either by redecorating, rescaling, or simply cleaning it up a little wouldn’t help, it’s time to start saving. It’s clear you need to find a new place to live, and we all know that never comes cheap!
Of course, if you’re a homeowner capable of selling their property, you’ll have a bit more to work with here. If you’re renting and would like to finally become a homeowner, you’ve got your work cut out for you.
But either way, the earlier you start saving, the sooner you can afford a property off the market or a custom home design that you’ve always dreamed of. Both can be around the same price to do, so either are a viable option for you.
If you completely hate your home, you don’t have to be trapped with the feeling!
