Are Your Fixtures Spacious Enough?
You’ve got your eye on a certain tub for your bathroom, and you probably want to take out the old shower and get a new unit fitted too, right? Well before you take the plunge and buy these fixtures, take the time to test them out – and make sure every member of your household does too!
After all, no one is going to enjoy using a bathroom where they can’t sit in the tub properly! No one is going to be able to use the shower without getting everything wet if it’s too small for the door to be closed. And remember, if there are any tall people in your household, the shower head needs to be fitted high enough for them to wash their hair without stooping!
Where is Water Likely to End Up?
A lot of bathrooms these days aren’t covered in tile. What was once the best way material for the bathroom is now only an essential in certain, water-prone areas. And that’s fine; you’re allowed to decorate your bathroom in the way you like, and add texture as and where it suits you.
But make sure you’ve accounted properly for where water is likely to end up. If you have an open shower that’s fitted straight against the wall, with no protection in between, there needs to be some waterproof material in the way!
Similarly, if you have a bath alcove, it’s likely that the entire perimeter around the tub will need to be lined with High Quality Floor & Wall Tile to prevent moisture from seeping into your home’s structure. Even small splashes can lead to water damage in no time at all, especially in a high traffic room like the bathroom!
Where Will You Store Your Toiletries?
Bathroom storage can be limited in the first place, but no redesign should go on without considering how to rectify this problem. Don’t ever forget about the amount of toiletries and bathroom amenities you’re going to need on hand.
Flannels, sponges, body towels, bath towels, floor mats, soap bars, shampoos, gels, mousses, bath bombs, bath soaks, loofahs, scrubbing gloves, razors and shavers – we really could go on and on forever here! If there’s no room for items like these to be kept all in one place, you need more storage in your renovation plan.
Will the Temperature Be Comfortable?
Finally, let’s think about the temperature of the bathroom. Will there be enough airflow in there to keep it temperate, and to prevent moisture in the air from settling into the walls and ceilings? Humidity can make a bathroom all the hotter, especially if there are no vents available for it to escape!
On the other hand, have you made room for adequate heating to prevent the bathroom from being too cold? A cold bathroom in the winter can be a nasty shock when used first thing in the morning!

A bathroom renovation can go very wrong, even when it seems like the work has all been done without any problems at all. After all, the result may not be quite what you need! The tiles may not cover enough of the wall, you may not have the right level of storage, and it may be way too cold in there when you’re trying to have a luxurious bath.
